Reminder that the World is still a Beautiful place. Flowers bring us Joy.

pink crabapple blossom

It feels sometimes that we are suspended in time, waiting for this virus to go away and for things to return to normal, whatever that is. Life and Death marches on, whether we are ready for it or not.
To those of you who have lost loved ones, and cannot have a funeral, we get that this is very difficult. For those of you planning a Wedding, there have been so many ups and downs.
Expectant mothers are worried about giving birth in a Hospital with Covid cases.
Many of us are worried about the length of time it's taking to vaccinate everyone in Canada.

It is time to remind ourselves to take a deep breath....and just breathe. It will be Spring soon, we can sit outside on our decks and visit, taking care to stay the required distance from each other. Remind yourself that flowers will bloom again.
We will be ok. We will get through this.

pink flowering crabapple trees

Our world will become green again, and trees will be awash with blooms. It will be so nice to be able to walk outside without mushing in snow and ice. Who will you visit first, once it's safe to do so?

Adding summer to your Northern Ontario Home, The Camellia, Thunder Bay, On.

blue eggs in Robin's nest

Well, it's June in Northern Ontario and everything is finally green, we have had so much rain and our rivers in Slate River are swollen to the point of over flow and flooding. Robins are busy nesting and chirping. And there are so many blackflies. Today we had sun, warm weather, wind, rain, and then hail. All in 1 day!

Summer along Lake Michigan

Summer means hanging by the Lake, with a picnic lunch, and some loungers. It's refreshing to sit by the Lake on a really hot day, with the Lake breezes blowing in your face, whipping your hair around. No phones, nobody asking you to do something for them, just Peace and relaxation. Summer in Northern Ontario.

Summer means that our Gardens are growing again... and the return of blooms, like this lovely Peony bloom which grew in my mother-in-law's Farm. We transplanted this peony bush into our Garden, and every year it blooms faithfully. This colour of Peony dries to a deep burgundy pink. Summer means lush Flower gardens.

Hello New Year 2019, 'Bye to old nonsense.

snowy winter scene happy new year

Welcome to 2019! The start of a New Year is a new beginning, a fresh page, a clean slate, a chance to begin new patterns of behaviour. Going forth into this New Year, what will you leave behind? Say good-bye to old ways of thinking, old perceptions, old reactions to the behaviour of others....

branches bent under snow

A New Year is like freshly fallen snow where no one has walked.... fresh, clean, white, untrodden.

words Adventure awaits

What new adventures await you in 2019? Some of us are fed-up with jobs, or relationships, maybe our eating habits, or we can't stand the homes or towns we live in. However, sometimes we lack perspective, which is why you talk to as many people as you can who are in the place you are trying to get to. Let's say you want a job in Public Relations at XYZ Company, you may find it helpful talking to someone who has that position today.  They may be able to offer their perspective on the job in XYZ Company.  "The grass is always greener on the other side", as the old saying goes.

tea leaves steeping in pot

A lot of us will vow to eat a healthier diet, exercise more, and take better care of ourselves. A hot cup of peppermint tea always helps.

saying : it doesn't matter what's been written in your story so far it's how you fill up the rest of the pages that count

Some of us may vow to take more vacation time....maybe a tropical vacation. Yeah!! Especially easy from Thunder Bay, as direct flights to Mexico, Cuba, and Dominican Republic start in January.

Take a moment to write down a few ...what you want to do in this coming year.

How to enjoy your Summer before it's all gone, The Camellia, Slate River

Hello! It's Summer in Slate River Valley.  We are enjoying some beautiful Summer weather and we should be laying around on the patio, reading a book, and enjoying ourselves, with a glass of Lavender lemonade or wine.  Wait a second, you said, you're not laying around? But why not? You've waited all Winter for Summer!

kitchen garden

You reply:

THE GARDEN! Someone has to plant it, all the planters have to be planted and watered. The lawn needs cutting. Take a look at Thomas Jefferson's Kitchen Garden in the above photo, at Monticello. He didn't do it all by himself, he had workers. When one of our kids was little, he loved to mow the grass...he would be begging to use the lawnmower with snow on the ground. That did not last! Maybe it's time to hire a company to do yardwork, or bribe someone else to do it...

HOME RENOVATIONS! Your Kitchen may have needed Renovating years ago, and you put it off, until finally, this is the year. You order flooring, look at a million paint samples, and you press on. Of course, you've forgotten that you are still using the kitchen every mealtime...and now, the contents of your cupboards are in boxes, and you can't find anything.

We may run a Kitchen Cabinet Class, so let us know if you are interested, just click, reply on this email. We are repainting our Oak kitchen cabinets, as we speak. Here they are below, you can see our Before (Oak) doors, the uppers are being painted white, and the lowers will be Asphalt Grey Cottage Paint. See that white door, can you believe that is the same oak door as the door behind it?

KIDS ACTIVITIES AND YOUR JOBS. Ever wonder why you can't get stuff done? You are at work all week, then the weekend comes, your kids are in Hockey or Soccer, and you spend most of your weekends out of town at Tournaments. Let's not mention cleaning your Home, laundry, etc. Then Monday comes all too quickly, and you walk into work, wondering what fresh hell awaits you this week.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO ENJOY YOUR SUMMER NOW?

Decide what is most important on your To-Do list.

If you're planning on painting your Furniture or your cabinets,  plan it around a long weekend, head to our store, the Camellia, to get colour advice and help.

If jobs are being piled on your head, stop, and blow your Horn ( just like you do when you're in traffic and some idiot pulls ahead of you and puts you in danger). Speak up and let people around you know what you are willing to do, and what is clearly their job. ASK FOR HELP.

Set aside an hour every day to sit outside, without feeling guilty. Work will always be there. Summer in Northern Ontario is fleeting. Take some time for yourself, and treat you skin to our Goats Milk Lavender products from White Oak Lavender Farm!

Colour brightens a damp, gloomy Spring Day. The Camellia, Thunder Bay

Coastal waters

You get these days in Northern Ontario, where there is lots of grey and a damp mix of rain/slush/snow, and it seems like Spring will never come. The trees are pollinating, the grass is growing, and Robins are busy building nests in our trees. And all the Songbirds have returned. The only thing to do on days like these is to look at photos from your Tropical vacays, And put some colour on your Walls.... don't get carried away with the current Grey and Neutral craze. Try the #CottagePaint array of colours...did you know that #SerenityCottagePaint can go on walls?

Green is a favourite of so many, Look at the play of Green against the whitewashed brick and that blue sky! I can feel the warmth of the sun that day, we are on the remains of an old Sugar Mill in Antigua.

Bimini Cottage Paint, a bold choice, great for a piece of Furniture or as an accent in your Home.

Such an intricate structure, historically the Caribbean's main industry was Sugar production.
