French & European Country Decor at The Camellia

Mini framed prints, found in un magasin at the bottom of Sacre-Coeur....in Paris..... we have different prints in stock at the store.

Cheery Provencal fabrics, from the markets in Provence, sold by the yard.

We carry provencal and Toile Fabrics. Here is one of the cushions we make, with a toile and an alternating check, in Waverly fabrics.

All kinds of faux stone finishes are part of this look. Details are added around Fireplaces, and also around doorways, and mirrors.

These are replicas of old advertising signs in Tin. This one would be perfect for a bathroom.

When you visit Europe, you can't help but notice the lace curtains in all the windows. We carry Heritage Lace, a high quality, washable lace, made in the U. S. Come in store to see the many patterns and colours available. Best of all, no ironing needed.

Hand-painted signs are painted here at The Camellia, so bring in your sayings, and we'll paint them for you. Please order ahead.

Painted finishes are part of the European country look. This is an old cabinet which I painted, using Hide glue as a crackling agent. Then I used a Wisteria stencil in the middle of the door panels.

Tres Chic Hooks, good for organizing everyday necessities.

Here at The Camellia, we are in love with Lavender. You will find a wide selection of Lavender bunches, lavender buds, lavender soaps, lotions, room sprays, and sachets. I still remermber the smell of Lavender when walking into the foyer of a Gite in Forcalquier, she had placed a huge vase of Lavender buds in the middle of the room, and the smell was everywhere.

Le Cigale is the symbol of the South of France, this is a wonderful Lavender Cigale soap.

Uncrating SPRING, Home & Garden Show, C.L.E.

It's blowing and cold here today, but at least the le soleil is out. Oh Spring, oh Spring, where art thou? In the meantime, I must be content with uncrating boxes of Spring blooms....

Potted primulas.

Potted Ranunculus. So Pretty!

This is an ad from The Canadian Countryman, Sept. 27, 1930. Old Farm journals provide a fascinating look into the past.

Feed sack pillows, Junk Bonanza, Creative Connection Event, Minneapolis

This past Fall, I was so fortunate to be able to go to Junk Bonanza, and the Creative Connection event in Minneapolis. So many treasures!

I was fascinated with the Feed sack pillows.

These are my favourite, burlap with a Parisian flair! Seen at a booth at The Handmade Fair at the Creative Connection event.

These cushions looked so great in the living room at the Bachman's Fall Idea house.

I knew sooner or later, I would come across some feed sacks, so I could make my own pillows.

Here's some cushions I just made today, soft, time worn, and so Vintage. Part of a line we are introducing - Opa Overmeer's Farm Goods, in memory of my father-in-law, Ted Overmeer.

Here's my version of the feed sack pillow, these are square, the size of a euro sham. I'm thinking they will be perfect on the deck of a Summer cottage or Camp.

Come visit The Camellia at the Spring Home & Garden show, at the CLE, in the Coliseum. APRIL 1,2, 3rd. The feed sack pillows should be finished by then , and will be for sale at our booth.

Spring time planting of Stargazer Lilies

Call it Spring fever..... you are walking along with a list of things you have to shop for, and then you just happen to walk by a display of Spring bulbs. Before you know it, you have grabbed a package of Stargazer lily bulbs. Now is the time to start your bulbs indoors. Start Canna lilies, dahlias, begonias, etc.

These bulbs will reward you with showy blooms in the Summer. All you have to do is remember to lift the bulbs in the fall, and store them indoors for the winter.
What are you planting today??

Pink for Spring

So inspired by the colour PINK - having a pink fit..so to speak.....!! Here's a Welcome Spring design for your front door, which I just made yesterday. I'm delighted in the fact that the snow is melting , and that Spring is almost here.

The lovely ROSE garden in Duluth at the Leif Erickson Park, a not-to-be-missed stop if you are in Duluth, MN during the Summer.

Rose-of-Sharon Plant in Sharon's Garden (no, I am not joking, our cousin in Niagara on the lake - Sharon - has these growing in her garden.) I wish these would grow in Thunder Bay ! They remind me of Hibiscus plants which grow in the Tropics.
