It's Canada Day celebration week, but with a difference this year - how do we celebrate while having to social distance due to Covid-19? Here in Northern Ontario, many will celebrate by going out to Camp, as we are blessed here with many Lakes and places to get away from it all.

Here in Thunder Bay, it will feel like +38C by this afternoon, so the Lake is a good place to head to, and there are many Lakes close by that we can go to. Cloud Lake is a mere 30 minutes from here.

Hello everyone! It's June and we have been having some incredible, hot, tropical weather. It is so wonderful to see so much green outside, with all the trees in leaf, and Crabapple blossoms in pink and white. Rhododendrons are in bloom, and even though we are still under restrictions due to Covid-19, the world in the Summer is still a beautiful place to be. 

Marsh Marigolds in an amazing display of spring colour. This is our view at The Camellia, we are close to the mountain. 

I have great memories of swinging in a hammock on a Verandah. 

A Verandah is the best place to try and catch a breeze on a hot day. Add a book, and a tall glass of something icy cold. Hot days are the best spent outdoors, lazing around....

Wooden sayings are great for a Porch, above a door, or just perched beside plants. They add some whimsy to an area. They are hand painted here at #TheCamellia, you can pre-order your sign with a custom saying. 

Outdoor Porch signs, old wooden windows, Watering  cans and clay pots are all important elements of styling a Porch. Insane things people do in their designer Kitchens, The Camellia, Thunder Bay

Here's the scenario. A Kitchen has been looking tired and needs updating, 30 years ago already. Finally, a Kitchen remodel starts. There is a lot of squabbling and fighting over the Kitchen remodel... nothing is wrong with this Kitchen, the counter looks fine, you want to spend WHAT on quartz counters? We don't need that. are you crazy? 

One partner thinks about the insane things the other partner does in this kitchen. Like today, it's a +30C day, and a marble rolling pin is used on a bag of ice cubes, bashed onto the wooden floor of aforementioned Kitchen. A really nice maple floor from Torly's. 

In Northern Ontario, as soon as summer rolls around and Fishing season starts ( although this Summer of 2020, who knows if anyone will be fishing? ), then the battle of the Fish cleaning starts. People in Canada have to have fish deboned, i.e.made into fillets. This is a task, leaves a mess, and stinks on top of that. This is MY house, don't you tell me what to do in My own house!

Hello! Hello!  How is everyone doing? Here at The Camellia, we are SO HAPPY that it's Spring and the weather is getting warmer! This little lamb is part of the flock of Stalwart Farm, just outside Kakabeka Falls.  Spring is a time of Joy, renewal, and new life!  We have now been quarantined for a while, and it seems like  ..... forever. All that togetherness with our family is nice, but no so nice after a while. Dads who don't usually look after kids are, well, very challenged,  shall we say. Those who aren't tech experts have had to quickly learn to embrace Zoom, and other apps. If you're a couple, little annoyances that the other person is doing, these are starting to drive you around the bend. Schedules are disrupted, and have you found that you barely know what day it is?  Trying to stick to a routine when there is no routine is hard. It seems like we stay in our PJ's or leggings most days. Also we may be staying up too late watching Netflix. And stress eating is happening.  Home is your safe place, a refuge in times like this. Now that you are spending more time at home, maybe the mess in your rooms is getting to you, or spaces that need updating are really starting to bother you.  We will be offering limited in-home Design consults, once things are open again. The Value of soap and Water in fighting flus and viruses, The Camellia, Thunder Bay

It's Winter in Canada and most of us like to escape to a warmer climate. Usually, it's quite easy to escape with direct flights to the Caribbean from most major cities in Canada. I had started to draft this blog entry a while ago, and today, it's April 3rd.of 2020, and so much has changed in our entire world. It is hard to even begin to document all of this.

Because of the spread of  a Virus, COVID-19, most countries have closed their borders, planes have stopped flying, people have been told to GO HOME and STAY HOME! In Canada, almost everyone ( except those working in essential services) is at Home, and we are allowed to go only to the grocery store and /or other essential services. Social distancing is the only chance we have of trying to slow down the spread of this horrible virus. Cruise ships have become breeding grounds for the virus, and at this point, it is hoped that all cruise ships will be grounded. 

This virus can be killed by hand-washing with soap, so we are doing a lot of hand-washing, and wiping down of grocery carts, doorknobs, etc. There are lineups at every grocery ( outside),  the number of people inside the grocery is limited to a certain number, and you must maintain 6 feet. between you and the next person. Toilet paper is in short supply. so are masks and protective equipment . 

We recommend washing with our Lavender soap from Neob Niagara. This is an all-natural soap, which can also be used as a Body Wash, Shampoo and Bubble Bath. We also have to avoid touching our face, nose and eyes. Covid-19 attacks your lungs and respiratory system.

All of us dream of  Time off...it's like a fantasy, when I have time off, I will do this, or that. Now that we all have time off, and we are waiting for this to be over, it is very difficult. We are almost going a bit nuts, when will our lives be normal again? The Government of Canada has announced financial help for Canadians during the Covid-19 crisis.
