Ikea Kitchen Makeover at Beach cottage

When I travel to Europe, I'm always amazed at how clean and tidy their houses are, and how they mange to purge themselves of all things unnecessary. Everything is there, but hidden in cupboards. The counters are clean, and no, they don't have a Maid service coming in regularly.

I think the only people who have clean kitchens are the ones that eat out all the time. NOT happening at my place, here's a scrumptious Coffee Cake which was just made.

In Europe, they seem to have  a knack for mixing ultra modern Ikea cabinets with century-old antiques, and it blends and looks wonderful. How do they do it?

Easy DIY with Rhubarb leaves

Rhubarb leaves are so plentiful in the garden at the moment. You may look at them and think, well, they're too big to use in an arrangement.

You can roll them up like when you're making a sushi wrap, then use green wool to bind.

Use purple floral dye in the water, or mix red and blue food colouring into the water.

Add a faux or fresh Dahlia, and voila! A 10 minute masterpiece!

Looks like some exotic tropical leaf, but it's just Rhubarb.

So much texture, it'll be interesting to see the leaves change after they soak up the purple dye.

Cement bowls, packed with succulents, great for those of us who don't like to water frequently.

Planting for a Summer Garden full of blooms

Here's the entrance to the Castle in Belgium where Floralia Exhibition is held. This Gardens was planned with the help of the Dutch Bulb and Flower Growers. It is approximately 1 and a half hours drive over from Holland.

Spectacular displays of Spring bulbs were to be seen everywhere, some were a tad bit damaged by the unusual cold temperatures. Note the skilful combination of Colours.

Such soft colours of Narcissus! It is truly inspiring to visit this Exhibition.

Oh to have such a pathway to stroll down! I love the green mossiness that seems to be on all the trees.

and this Archway....you can imagine Ladies promenading under this arch, twirling their parasols.....

There are spectacular Floral displays in the Greenhouses, here you can see the Gloriosa Lilies which were bought at  the auctions, they are to be used in the massive displays of Floral art throughout the Exhibitions. I think I read somewhere that they change the flowers every Friday....10,000 of them.

Here are some of the floral displays being constructed.

As you leave the grounds, there is a Shop selling all the bulbs you have just seen planted on the grounds.

Ranunculus - one of my favourite flowers! Upon asking the experts on site...."What is the trick to growing freesias, ranunculus and anemones? I was informed that these bulbs are tricky and very hard... so the suggestion was made to soak  bulbs in some water before planting.

Hmmm...will have to try this..
