It's July in Thunder Bay, and it has definitely been hot and humid. The heat makes it even more uncomfortable to wear a mask. It's now the law that you must wear a mask in Thunder Bay. According to the Thunder Bay District Health unit's website, " As of Friday, July 24, 2020 at 12.01 am. all businesses and organizations in the Thunder Bay District Health Unit area must adopt a policy that requires all members of the public and employees who enter or remain in an enclosed public space to wear a mask or face covering, under instructions issued by the Medical Officer of Health."

Most of us are fed up with the whole Mask/noMask debate, and just want our lives to go back to "Normal", or what life was before Covid-19. If wearing a mask helps us to cut down on the spread of Covid-19 , then just wear it. When coming to our store, do bring your own mask and put it on before entering our store. 

Our gardens are loving the heat, and recently we have been having tropical downpours, so we have beautiful Blooms and our Veggie gardens have been prolific with beans, kale, lettuce, peas and more. 

This is despite the recent invasion of Japanese beetles. 

Now, more than ever, it is important that we take some time for self care. Soaking in a bathtub and reading a good book is good for taking your mind off all the what-ifs. Visit our store, or call us (we offer delivery and curbside pickup), to pick up Lavender bath bombs, and Napa Soap bars.

Hello! Hello!  How is everyone doing? Here at The Camellia, we are SO HAPPY that it's Spring and the weather is getting warmer! This little lamb is part of the flock of Stalwart Farm, just outside Kakabeka Falls.  Spring is a time of Joy, renewal, and new life!  We have now been quarantined for a while, and it seems like  ..... forever. All that togetherness with our family is nice, but no so nice after a while. Dads who don't usually look after kids are, well, very challenged,  shall we say. Those who aren't tech experts have had to quickly learn to embrace Zoom, and other apps. If you're a couple, little annoyances that the other person is doing, these are starting to drive you around the bend. Schedules are disrupted, and have you found that you barely know what day it is?  Trying to stick to a routine when there is no routine is hard. It seems like we stay in our PJ's or leggings most days. Also we may be staying up too late watching Netflix. And stress eating is happening.  Home is your safe place, a refuge in times like this. Now that you are spending more time at home, maybe the mess in your rooms is getting to you, or spaces that need updating are really starting to bother you.  We will be offering limited in-home Design consults, once things are open again. Beat the January Blues! Advice from someone who lived in the Caribbean.

It's January in Northwestern Ontario, it's a beautiful sunny, but extremely cold day. We have about 2 feet of snow on the ground, and it's pretty, but it's not the Caribbean. You go out walking every day, bundled up like a Polar bear.

Some of us want to go to the BEACH!!

And sit by the Pool. And be on Holiday. 

GREEN. We crave Green. How about You? 

However, Life gets in the way. work gets in the way, and you can't go on Holiday for a Tropical vacay. Here are some ways to make January fly by. 

• sew up those patio cushions which you bought fabric for, FIVE years ago. See that fabric bolt in the above photo, with the green piping? Thank goodness blues and aquas never go out of style. 
• put on your island T-shirt, mix yourself a crazy Coconut drink. sit by the fire. Play loud beach reggae. ( We sell these Jamaica T's at The Camellia). 
• get a plant buddy...like this miniature Palm which we sell at The Camellia. something green.
• read your Travel books. 
• get some of your Summer travel photos printed, make an Album. use up some of those scrapbooking supplies you bought ten years ago. Do people scrapbook anymore??
• Paint something with Cottage Paint, in bright, Tropical colours. A Beach sign. 
• Wrap yourself in your bright blue throw which you picked up in Mexico.
• visit the Weather Network, and check the temperatures in Barbados, Playa del Carmen, Antigua, and Florida.  sigh.....
• If all of the above fails, drive to the nearest airport, and head south!

Thanksgiving goings-on at The Camellia, Thunder Bay, Ontario.

It's been a beautiful Fall in Thunder Bay and the surrounding Slate River Valley. This Thanksgiving is the perfect time to take a Drive in the Country, or to do a Fall hike.
