Step away from the black

Step away from the Black and embrace colour. Everywhere you go, Black is a uniform. A busload of tourists unload at the Ice fields in B.C. almost all are wearing black leggings. Waiters and Waitresses at restaurants are all wearing black. If you too are wearing black, look out.....when you get up from your table, someone will ask you to get them a drink or something. has this ever happened to you? You are slightly put out by their request and the person that asked you feels ..well..silly. and kind of embarrassed.   Business people wear black to look professional. And ..the situation gets compounded when it's Winter and some people lose all their colour, all that black is not too flattering with very pale skin. In Victorian times, black was worn to symbolize a period of mourning. Women showed their grief through wearing Black which represented the lack of light.
It is quite symbolic that we are mostly wearing black in this day, what are we mourning for?

Brown is not as harsh as black, but still looks lovely. Come into The Camellia today to see our Shrugs, they come in one size and many colours.

You can jazz black up with purples and blues, throw a scarf on, and instant style! We stock many colours and  the Infinity scarves .

Pattern can change things up, like this Vera Bradley handbag, along with a hand-made scarf from Sarah. Sarah is an artisan and draws her inspiration from Lake Superior.

Neutral handbags are always in style.

Add a flirty, pretty scarf  ... no-one said that you can't look pretty and be warm .

The colour Red is an instant pick- you-upper. Come visit #TheCamellia today for a new handbag, scarf and other accessories.

Thinking Spring in the midst of Snow.

Here at The Camellia, we are trying to think     S P R I N G !!

It is somewhat difficult to think Spring, with snowfall after snowfall, with blowing winds and minus thirty -something temperatures.

So we can dream on and think about munching on yummy Lavender Cupcakes, and sipping Lavender Lemonade.

And of Peony Garden blooms, as big as the palm of your hand. Ruffles of Pink and Ivory.

Washing with our Hand-made Lavender Soap, made in Canada. Lavender is sure to calm and de-stress you.

Fall Trend Report, 2012 - Camellia's, Thunder Bay

Hello everyone! It's September already, can you believe it?

Being a fashion-challenged person, and a person who has her nose buried in decor trend reports, I've asked my Fashion expert in Ottawa to share her ideas on Fall  fashion Trends. Thanks to Indira Bondy for this peek into the Fashion world!

With shorter days and cooler nights, it’s time for Canadians to transition to an Autumn wardrobe. Once again, designers do not disappoint fashionista’s of any stripe. Let’s get started with the key themes chosen by Canadian Fashion editors at Fashion Magazine, Flare and Elle Canada.

Black in all its leather, rock and roll and gothic styles

Fashion magazines are calling it the Rooney Mara effect, Fall clothes in Black goth, black rock and roll, black erotic, black religious, and in many juxtapositions. It then morphs into black and romantic with lace and velvet. See Danier Leather for the latest Fall Collections. For the sophisticated woman, check out Jeanne Becker’s line at the Bay.

Want something a little romantic and flirty?

Embellishments and its forays into Eastern traditions, romantic lace and baroque

The 1980s make a comeback with rich embellishment such as beading, brocade, jewellery and appliqué. Visit The Camellia to see our unique collection of hand-spun scarves and edgy jewellery pieces, some of which are made by local Thunder Bay artisans.

Sarah draws her colour palette from the surroundings of Lake Superior - from the Water, rocks, mosses, and sky. Each piece is unique and special.

For those of you who love Colour, this striking combination of black and watermelon is for you!

Wearing a little black dress? Jazz it up with a purple mini bag with a turquoise and purple scarf.

Rich Earth Colors, feminine and masculine pieces

Plum, mustard, forest green and deep reds will rule Canadian streets for Fall.  Visit Holt Renfrew, the Bay, H&M and Simons in Montreal for great fashion.

Even though it's still warm and humid out, cooler weather will soon be upon us. It's a perfect time to visit Camellia's to choose a new Handbag, scarf , or perhaps a pair of warm, wooly mitts.

We are OPEN Wednesday through Sunday.
 Wed. 11-5, Thurs. 11-8, Fri. Noon-7p. Sat. 11-5. Sun. Noon-5p.
