Making Time slow down when it seems like it's speeding up, The Camellia

Hello February! We have been lucky as January in Northern Ontario can be really, really cold. And this January it's been so mild. It's been easy to get out walking every day. We've had lots of snow, and here we are in February, it seems like January has flown by.

Which brings us to the concept of Time... why does it seem to speed up as you get older? Click on the link below, which is a great article on Making Time. Read on.

dried fern wreath at the Camellia

When you're involved in something you like to do, time seems to fly by. This is a ginormous Wreath I made from field ferns. It took hours and more hours, and the idea of a giant Fern Wreath had been in my head for months, and I simply had to find the time to make it. What projects do you have going around in your head? ...when I have time.......I will make .........

Ever notice how slowly time goes when you are stuck doing some dreaded task...like Bookwork? You pull up your files, then you find yourself checking email, Facebook, and wait, you're starving! so you race off to find a snack, and before you know it, 2 hours have gone by, and you haven't started your paperwork. Yes, time crawls sometimes.

It seems like there is never enough time to sleep. For a long time, I treated Sleep as an afterthought, after I get everything done, I will go to bed. Sleep deprivation leads to many health problems. You must make time for Rest.

It can be a struggle to eat healthy. Especially when there is a Timmie's on every street corner, and there are chocolates at every grocery checkout. And you are tired when you get home from work. This past summer we grew all kinds of veggies, and it's so much easier to eat healthy when you can pick kale from your own garden.

One day you get the call that one of your friends has unexpectedly passed away. You may feel terrible as you had meant to call her up and have lunch together, and you didn't make the time.
This is a willow cross which we have for sale at The Camellia.

Beat the January Blues! Advice from someone who lived in the Caribbean.

sunny winter day at The Camellia, thunder Bay

It's January in Northwestern Ontario, it's a beautiful sunny, but extremely cold day. We have about 2 feet of snow on the ground, and it's pretty, but it's not the Caribbean. You go out walking every day, bundled up like a Polar bear.

Some of us want to go to the BEACH!!

GREEN. We crave Green. How about You?

beach themed flat lay at The Camellia

However, Life gets in the way. work gets in the way, and you can't go on Holiday for a Tropical vacay. Here are some ways to make January fly by.

  • sew up those patio cushions which you bought fabric for, FIVE years ago. See that fabric bolt in the above photo, with the green piping? Thank goodness blues and aquas never go out of style.
  • put on your island T-shirt, mix yourself a crazy Coconut drink. sit by the fire. Play loud beach reggae. ( We sell these Jamaica T's at The Camellia).
  • get a plant buddy...like this miniature Palm which we sell at The Camellia. something green.
  • read your Travel books.
  • get some of your Summer travel photos printed, make an Album. use up some of those scrapbooking supplies you bought ten years ago. Do people scrapbook anymore??
  • Paint something with Cottage Paint, in bright, Tropical colours. A Beach sign.
  • Wrap yourself in your bright blue throw which you picked up in Mexico.
  • visit the Weather Network, and check the temperatures in Barbados, Playa del Carmen, Antigua, and Florida.  sigh.....
  • If all of the above fails, drive to the nearest airport, and head south!

Weighted blankets for Kids and Adults, The Camellia, Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Is all the hype about Weighted blankets true? What are weighted Blankets? Do they work to reduce stress and anxiety? The underlying science on weighted blankets is called deep touch pressure (DTP). DTP refers to gently applying pressure to the body to increase the release of Serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical in the body that promotes relaxation and the feel-good emotions.

Not sure what a weighted blanket feels like? Then come into our store, the Camellia, to try one out.

We have 7lb. 10lb. and 12lb. blankets in kid's sizes, filled with non toxic, lead-free glass beads, and you throw the whole blanket in the wash. We stock grey blankets, but you can order other colours as long as you order by the 15th. of each month.

We also have 15 lb. and 20 lb. blankets in adult sizes with a removable, washable, cover. The general rule is the blanket should be about 10% of the person's body weight.

We are sleeping under a weighted blanket, and it really does help you sleep better.
Buy weighted Blankets at The Camellia, at 30/32 Hacquoil Rd.
Open Wed. through Sunday.

It's the perfect show to find that one-of-a-kind Gift. You'll find The Camellia in the room off the main Ballroom, in a corner booth, look for the evergreen branches. If you've always wanted one of our Wreaths, now is the time to get one. It takes time and years of skill to fashion evergreen branches into a Wreath.

You can purchase Wreaths at the Artisans Show, or you can order for delivery in December. If you buy your Wreath now, it will last outside until Christmas and beyond.

We pick evergreen branches from our yard, so they are fresh as can be. Balsam, pine, spruce and more. It's hard work, with pine sap gumming up our clothes and hands, pine needles everywhere, being poked by wire, but the smell is so beautiful! there is nothing like it. It smells like Christmas in here!
