It is time to say Good-bye to our physical storefront, at 30/32 Hacquoil Rd. in Slate River, Ontario. We have most of our inventory on Sale, and our store fixtures and props are for sale. Christmas is coming soon, and this is a great opportunity for you to buy unique Gifts at a great price.

All of our store fixtures are for Sale, this antique cupboard is very old, the two                               pieces can be separated, and used individually. 

There are various sizes of Glass shelving for sale, these can be used in a Craft room or Hobby area in a Home, and are great for organizing supplies. You can see through the glass which is handy for finding supplies quickly. Phone us for measurements.

Patio Tablecloths at The Camellia, Summer 2022

Even though we still have lots of snow on the ground, it has to melt at some point, and we can see that a lot of you are getting excited about Patio season! You can notice that some of the trees have enlarged buds and yes, it will be green soon. Maybe your Patio table is looking a little worn, but wait, it can be dressed up with one of our Patio Tablecloths. 

These are made with a hole in the middle, and a zipper up to that hole, so that your Patio umbrella and a tablecloth can co-exist. These are part of our 'Magic Tablecloth" line, they are water repellent, stain resistant, and machine washable. 

Some of the Tablecloths have matching cushions with fillers. Sizes of Tablecloths are : 60" Round, 54" x 72" rectangular, and 60" x 90" rectangular. Not all patterns are available in all sizes.

Paint pouring Supplies, Cottage Paint at The Camellia, Thunder Bay, Canada.

You may have a bare spot on your wall and you've heard about Paint pouring...why not try it? 

What is Paint pouring?  First, it is best to paint your board white. You will need some plastic squeeze bottles ( the kind you put ketchup in which you buy at the Dollar store). Mix your Cottage Paint colours with the Pour medium ( we'll show you this shortly) and water.  You can use the original Cottage Paint, Serenity , Urban Paint and Colour and Seal which is semi transparent.  Your paint should be the consistency of melted ice cream.  Watch the video below...

If you doing a Pour on a Table top, make sure your table top is level (use a level) - the formula is 1 cup of pour mixture per square foot of table. It takes 24 hours to settle and a week to dry. Wear gloves and tape off edges of Table. White is heavier, and all paints  have different weights, so don't mix your paint until you are ready to pour. Cover your work surface as this can be messy.  You will be tilting your table, and doing some disturbing. You will get a marble, veined look. Check your edges which you may have to touch up with a paintbrush, putting it on nice and thick. Keep checking your pattern, and tilt your Table top. Let it dry for a week, then put 2 good coats of Cottage Paint high gloss varnish on to protect, putting on a heavier coat of varnish, which should be dripping down the edges ( paint varnish on with a brush).

Once again, make sure you watch the above video! Have some shims and blocks on hand. You can also try this technique on mason jars or old glass vases. Use baking foil pans as a drip tray. You may need a hair dryer to help push the paint over, if your piece is too big to tilt.

Escape to your Summer Porch or Veranda, The Camellia, Thunder Bay

Hello everyone! It's June and we have been having some incredible, hot, tropical weather. It is so wonderful to see so much green outside, with all the trees in leaf, and Crabapple blossoms in pink and white. Rhododendrons are in bloom, and even though we are still under restrictions due to Covid-19, the world in the Summer is still a beautiful place to be. 

Marsh Marigolds in an amazing display of spring colour. This is our view at The Camellia, we are close to the mountain. 

I have great memories of swinging in a hammock on a Verandah. 

A Verandah is the best place to try and catch a breeze on a hot day. Add a book, and a tall glass of something icy cold. Hot days are the best spent outdoors, lazing around....

Wooden sayings are great for a Porch, above a door, or just perched beside plants. They add some whimsy to an area. They are hand painted here at #TheCamellia, you can pre-order your sign with a custom saying. 

Outdoor Porch signs, old wooden windows, Watering  cans and clay pots are all important elements of styling a Porch. This wooden bench is a relic from my Father-in-law's Farm on Broadway Avenue in Thunder Bay. The bench was refreshed with Cottage Paint - colours used were Sea Turtle and Sky Blue Waters.

It's finally summer in Northern Ontario! We're so lucky to be surrounded by Lakes   ... the great Lake Superior and many inland lakes. Summer means Fishing season has begun. Time to head out to Camp. We celebrate by planting in our gardens....so nice to see Green outside instead of white! What did you plant in your Garden this summer? Flowers or Veggies or both? 

This is a Danish Mid-Summer Rose bloom. It's a bit late this year, but is now starting to bloom. You remember that sweet Rose smell ....this variety has plenty of that.

Adding summer to your Northern Ontario Home, The Camellia, Thunder Bay, On.

Well, it's June in Northern Ontario and everything is finally green, we have had so much rain and our rivers in Slate River are swollen to the point of over flow and flooding. Robins are busy nesting and chirping. And there are so many blackflies. Today we had sun, warm weather, wind, rain, and then hail. All in 1 day! 

Summer means hanging by the Lake, with a picnic lunch, and some loungers. It's refreshing to sit by the Lake on a really hot day, with the Lake breezes blowing in your face, whipping your hair around. No phones, nobody asking you to do something for them, just Peace and relaxation. Summer in Northern Ontario. 

Summer means that our Gardens are growing again... and the return of blooms, like this lovely Peony bloom which grew in my mother-in-law's Farm. We transplanted this peony bush into our Garden, and every year it blooms faithfully. This colour of Peony dries to a deep burgundy pink. Summer means lush Flower gardens.

Hello! Easter is just around the corner, and it's time to think about sending Easter Flowers! These are our favourite - Ranunculus blooms. It's always so nice to receive Flowers at Easter, especially in Thunder Bay, there is still snow on the ground here.
