Hello!  With all the heat we have had this Summer, it is a relief to enjoy some cooler nights. This is the perfect time to harvest your Flowers and Veggies, and to finish up all those Cottage Paint projects you started.

Fall is the best time to go for a hike and forage for dried branches, grasses, and ferns !  Some of you have been drying your blooms from your cutting Garden, and then hanging them upside down  to dry. We have been picking branches and preserving them in glycerin, which keeps the leaves pliable and turns them a beautiful shade of brown. Foraging in Nature is very rewarding, and a great stress-reliever.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving! The Camellia, Thunder Bay, On.

It's Thanksgiving in Canada, and Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! It's a good time to jot down a list of things you are thankful for. With all that is going on in our world today, it's easy to get stuck in negativity. 

It's Fall here in Northwestern Ontario, and it's a spectacular leaf show of yellows, rusts, oranges and greens. 

Time to get in the car, and go for a ride in Slate River, on Hacquoil Road. That way you can shop at our store, the Camellia, at 30, Hacquoil Rd. We are open Thanksgiving weekend, Sat. 11-5, and Sun. 12-4.

As always, September seems to come along way too early. Sunflowers are in full bloom, and even though the days are still warm,  the nights are on the chilly side. Of course, after the hot summer we have had, everything feels cold in comparison.

What was your Summer like, weather-wise? 

As summer draws to a close, some of us are a bit panicked about all the painting projects we meant to get finished, but somehow, well...it was summer and Fishing and Camp and Life happened. Is it too late to paint? No, especially with the warm temperatures we have been enjoying lately. Just get started on your painting projects, and you'll be surprised at how quickly they will get done. Need Cottage Paint? Stop in at our store at 30, Hacquoil Rd. We have Paints, brushes, sample colours and more. 

Here is a tin muffin pan, painted with Cottage Paint, lightly distressed, and voila! 

A catchall for keys or jewellery, or those random bits and pieces that seem to accumulate on counters.

Here is a Laundry Room cupboard makeover, with Cottage Paint and some stencilling. Do remember to use our cleaner before painting! ( see photo below). Paint will not adhere to a surface that may be contaminated with grease, dirt, and/or Furniture polish. 

It was a great Summer for growing Flowers, and we have been busy harvesting, drying, and making up Dried Flower bouquets, like this one with ferns, grasses, oregano and peonies. These are for sale in our store, the Camellia, at 30, Hacquoil Rd. 

All around us, Fall is in the air, ferns and grasses make a spectacular show of colours and textures. Here at The Camellia, we draw inspiration from Nature, and a lot of foilage from our fields finds its way into our dried bouquets. 

Today, these hanging Eucalyptus sprays were made up for use in an At-Home-Spa area, or in a bathroom. Eucalyptus will smell wonderful once the bathroom steams up, and this helps clear sinus congestion. In this swag, we used field ferns, seeded eucalyptus, baby eucalyptus, and limonium. We will have a number of these for sale in the upcoming virtual Craft Revival Christmas edition 2020.

Falling into Fall, reluctantly

 It's September already...and some of us want to hang onto that last little bit of heat, we don't want our plants to freeze, and we have no desire to dig out coats, boots, and even socks. As for the S  - word, please, let's not go there. Time to think about transitional floral arrangements - these ease into the different seasons without any effort or extra fanfare. Like this stunning Magnolia arrangement above. The leaves look nice long after they have dried up.

 Look at the colours of these pomegranates, great to add to a wooden bowl as a quick centrepiece.

 Time to cut those hyrangea blooms, to make up wreaths .

 Continue to appreciate each and every sunny day with blue skies.

 It's easier to sleep now that the nights are a bit cooler.

 Think about taking a Fall course at The Camellia.

Sit by Lake Superior and enjoy the running water .

On letting go of expectations..The Camellia, Thunder Bay

To quote Cookie Monster,  "Today me will live in the moment unless it's unpleasant in which case me will eat Cookie!!" It's true, we all have unpleasant days, those blah days when you just want to go back to bed, and then wake up and find out it was all a bad dream. but just one look at this cheery Sunflower bloom from last year's Garden ... and you start to feel a tiny bit better. It's always hard to let go of expectations, and it's crushing when you realize that it is what it is, no matter how much you wish otherwise. Like our weather this Summer, which now feels like Fall.

 All this rain has led to much grass cutting and my grapevine has grown to gignormous heights. May have to cut some of it to make a wreath.

 We must remind ourselves that Life is Beautiful.

 Garden lilacs, burlap, hearts and old windows.

 We have a Vegan dog,he loves tomatoes and zucchini, and beans and cukes. ...

 We have Canadian Soy candles out at the store, they smell wonderful!

 Saying Good-bye to Summer.
